While school is out for the summer, local schools, churches and other community organizations are offering nutritious meals to children and teens 18 years old and younger. These programs ensure that low-income children have continual access to nutritious meals during the summer months. Food is gathered from local farms to prepare breakfasts and lunches for children. Having access to nutritious food has been shown to help the cognitive developments in children.
A flyer has been created by Broome County Child Hunger Task Force showing local locations that are offering free summer meals for children. For more information on sites, dates and time visit www.feedbroome.org, call 2-1-1 to find food locations and other local resources, or text “FOOD” to 877-877.
