As the opioid epidemic spreads across the nation, top federal health officials recently announced a joint effort with pharmaceutical companies to develop drugs that will curb the opioid epidemic. This public-private venture is working to cut the development time for new therapies in half in order to bring to market three new types of drugs that are non-addictive, better at reversing opioid overdoses and are a better treatment for opioid addiction. According to a report by the Washington Post, both sides are committed to addressing this major health crisis and working quickly to find new drug therapies that will help those with an opioid addiction, potentially lowering the number of opioid deaths each year in the U.S. The Washington Post 5/31/17
