Local New York leaders met in Albany on Tuesday, May 22nd to discuss the drug epidemic that is hitting communities hard throughout New York State.
WBNG Channel 12 News was present at the meeting and reported on the discussion around the over-dosing drug Naloxone, or Narcan, and what can be done to make sure more people throughout New York have access.
State Senators Fred Akshar and James Seward were both in attendance and shared with the group their thoughts on the gaps in where and how Narcan can be found. Discussion was had around providing inmates with Narcan when leaving the correctional facilities, providing Narcan kits to schools, and having more pharmacies across the state carry Narcan.
State Senator Seward noted that while expanding access and awareness to Narcan must be done, we also need to focus on prevention efforts as well.
