In the early days of Care Compass Network (CCN), there were only a few employees, one being Robert “Bob” Carangelo. Bob was the third employee on the team and hit the ground running to help realize the vision for the PPS of the Southern Tier.

Robert Carangelo, Finance Director, Care Compass NetworkPrior to CCN, Bob worked at United Health Services Hospitals (UHSH) in the Performance Improvement department. During that time, he took part in Six Sigma training which focuses on change management. Bob achieved a Six Sigma Black Belt, a three-year certification (which he still maintains) that was the culmination of many continuing education courses. He received his bachelor’s degree in Economics from the State University of New York at Buffalo, and his MBA from Binghamton University. Currently, Bob is pursuing his PhD in Systems Science, also at Binghamton University.

In his role as Finance Director for CCN, Bob manages the department including two team members who together administer employee benefits, 401(k) plans, and payroll. He was instrumental in the creation of the Innovation Program through which he shepherds the applications, reviews, and award disbursement processes.

When asked what he enjoys most about his work with CCN, Bob commented that working with numbers has always been his preference. “There isn’t a lot of subjectivity. There is always a right answer.” Bob’s work also involves creating budgets, forecasting future streams of revenue, sharing data, and creating financial models.

“The culture and collaborative nature of the organization makes it a pleasure to go to work every day,” says Bob. Even in a remote work setting, Bob meets monthly with the finance committee which is comprised of 11 healthcare professionals from partner organizations across the nine-county region.

Much of his ongoing focus is dedicated to the sustainability of CCN post-DSRIP. “I’m working on what the future will look like for our organization.  Thanks to the funding already set aside, I am confident we will be able to successfully transition from the DSRIP funding source to our own sustainable funding streams,” he shared.
